History repeats itself…

Sometimes, it really does feel as though history repeats itself or at least we sure hope so! As we research this beautiful, old home, we discover so many stories of days gone by. We learn of the lavish parties once held here in the parlor and the front lawn by Dr. Sharp and his wife, Nellie Dent Sharp (Mrs. Grant’s sister) We learn about the Swiggert family who lived here and owned a local grocery store with their many children running throughout the staircase. Ahhh…the chaos and sounds of a house filled with friends and family. What could possibly be better?

If we’ve met, you undoubtedly know we (ok, I like it more than Joe, but he is coming along) like a houseful. A house filled with family & friends, good food, good wine, and music. As we slowly put together, Pleasant View Antique Shoppe at Herron Cottage, the thought of our house filled once again with friends and family and meeting new friends along the way is just exactly how we dreamt it would be—-good food, a little wine, music and people to fill the halls of this home!

History really does repeat itself…in Newville. A once bustling community of small businesses. A town filled with small grocers, restaurants, and clothing stores. It is coming back to just that! As we meet more and more townsfolk, we are learning there are a lot I mean A LOT of small businesses just waiting to find the perfect spot to open. Artisans live here. Bee keepers live here. A lavender farmer with handcrafted lotions, soaps and candles lives here. A candlemaker that is going to make our very own, signature, Herron Cottage Soaps complete with a pic of our home (and Grant) right on the label—-from scratch! We even found a baker that will put President Grant’s face on our signature cookies for you to enjoy every time you come by! All of these entrepreneurs are right here, in the heart of Central Pennsylvania in Newville.

Be sure to follow along as we slowly curate the shoppe filled with local treasures. Our shoppe will feature all things local! From the moment you walk in the door, you will feel history repeating itself with the sounds of family & friends enjoying each other’s company to the smell of Newville’s baked goods and candles to the taste of a hand crafted beer from Whisker’s (named for the the mascot of the town, the Bulldog) You will feel right at home, in our home just as it was in days gone by. History really does repeat itself and we just cannot wait to welcome history back to our home!
